One of the newest additions to Gramtik’s Lowtemp Music family, French electro hip-hop outfit The Geek x Vrv, have some serious heat coming out of their studio. Their latest release, “Say It” is a superb specimen of electronic hip-hop at its finest. The beat is deep, sultry and soulful. The samples are spot-on. And the vibe is undeniably chill. But really, would you expect anything less from a pair of Gramtik-approved gents like these? Beside this one, the tempos and vibes vary throughout their catalogue; some tunes are more upbeat and electronic, while others are smooth and soulful like this one. Honestly, these guys sound really similar to Gramtik’s earlier Street Bangerz days, so if you liked that, you will definitely appreciate this. Be sure to snag this free download while you explore the Geek x Vrv’s other work, including excellent remixes and mixtapes, most of which are available for free on their Soundcloud. I think it’s safe to say that we can expect great things from these two in the future. Enjoy!
Dr. Dre & Eminem will always be one be one of the greatest hip-hop collaborations of all time. Of course, they’ve both been remixed plenty of times, but this one is by far one of the dirtiest I’ve heard. The LA-based duo niceFingers has taken the Dre & Em classic, “Forgot About Dre,” and flipped it into a dark, low-end thumper. Starting out with the haunting violin sample from the theme song of Requiem for a Dream, the remix adds in a fat helping of bass to take things to the next level. Best of all, the original rapping/vocals are untouched, so you still get all the hip-hop goodness with a little something extra. Besides this gem, check out niceFingers’s Soundcloud page where you can delve into plenty of quality bass music, most of which is available for free. Enjoy!
Here at Headytunes we live and breathe for electronic music, but we also have an occasionally torrid love affair with hip-hop. Well-crafted beats covered with clever lyrics—you really can’t go wrong with that formula. And that’s exactly what we have in store for you today.
If you’ve spent any time in the state of Colorado, you may know that Boulder, home the University of Colorado, is a hub for all kinds of electronic music, but there’s another genre making noise there—hip-hop. In anticipation of his upcoming mixtape The In Between, Boulder-based rapper Matty Mac, one piece of the Smak-Pak Artist Collective, is serving up a couple of appetizers (or perhaps, rappetizers) to pique your interest. First is The Gooniez, produced by Be Good which features a very clean, chilled-out beat and spicy flow from start to finish. Next up is The Crave which is laid over the Royal refix of the classic song “Crave You” by Flight Facilities; this one is definitely more upbeat than “The Gooniez” but maintains Matty Mac’s ability to rap flawlessly from start to finish. Check out the free downloads below, and keep your ears peeled for The In Between dropping October 9th.
