It’s always a little funny when an artist releases a debut album even though he’s been making hits for a few years. But make no mistake, Money Sucks, Friends Rule, the solid debut album from the notoriously goofy Dillon Francis, is the definition of coming out swinging. With an impressive roster of collaborators and an eclectic mish-mash of styles and genres, Dillon Francis’s brainchild is definitely going to turn some heads and probably start a few house parties too. Setting the tone with “All That,” a hyped-up track featuring the blistering rhymes of Twista, MSFR takes listeners on a whirlwind journey through the interesting and surprising mind of Dillon Francis. Though he is often pigeon-holed as a strictly moombahton producer, Mr. Francis makes it abundantly clear that he can do whatever the fuck he wants by dabbling with all kinds of genres including trappy heaters like “Get Low ft. DJ Snake,” big room bangers like “Set Me Free ft. Martin Garrix,” and indie synth jams like “Love in the Middle of a Firefight ft. Brandon Urie [of Panic at the Disco].” Even though he has already amassed a loyal fan base, this album, which appeals to any and all listeners, ought to increase the size of it overnight. In spite of his perpetual goofiness, I think it’s safe to say that Dillon Francis is ready to be taken seriously in the world of electronic music. Enjoy the partial album below, but grab your copy ASAP if you want to hear the real deal.
