Mt. Eden and Blackmill—need I say more? If you are a dubstep fan or at least have a dubstep station on your Pandora, surely you’re aware that Mt. Eden and Blackmill are both masters of big, beautiful, melodic dubstep in their own right, but together they create pure aural magic. Recently, they paired up to release “Now,” a magnificent, hauntingly beautiful single that is more melodic than dubstep, but is just as moving as one might except from the collaboration. As if it weren’t enough that the two powerhouses have teamed up, the single is available for free download, so you can listen to it on repeat and cry as much as you want. Grab the tissues and enjoy!
Getting bored with your regular tunes lately? Looking for a change of pace?
Well look no further. If you’re at all interested in the mind-expanding realm of ambient/downtempo/dub electronic music, I’m pretty sure that you’re going dig this one. Gratitude, the latest release from Denver producer Soulacybin, is an intensely far-out sonic journey that’s perfect music for relaxing, enjoying illicit substances (unless you live in Colorado or Washington), or just getting some work done. Stylistically, this album falls somewhere between comparable sounds like old-school Mimosa, Random Rab, Ott, and Amon Tobin, so if you’re a fan of any of those acts, you’ll definitely enjoy Soulacybin. My favorite part about the album is that it incorporates sounds and influences ranging from Eastern Indian instrumentation to deep, heavy bass to glitched-out breakdowns. It might not be everyone’s taste, but if you ask me, Gratitude is about as spacey and ethereal as it gets. Show your support and buy a copy from Kalya Scintilla’s Merkaba Music. Kick up your feet and peace be the journey. And if you like what hear, there’s plenty more where that came from on Soulacybin’s Soundcloud page. Enjoy!
